Think Big. Think Responsibly.
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande has always been committed to the sustainable management of the Teatro Grande's activities and events, in line with the criteria set out in the CAM Cultural Events, approved by Ministerial Decree No. 459 of October 19, 2022, and with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which, through its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), provides the framework for global sustainable development.
The Think Big. Think responsibly Sustainability Manifesto reflects the sustainability actions underway and the good practices implemented with regard to the environment and the communities involved in the various cultural and social activities of the Teatro Grande. Through the Manifesto and the Sustainability Policy adopted, the Fondazione del Teatro Grande has embarked on a path of continuous improvement geared towards economic, social, and environmental sustainability, both within its own organization and in its relations with the stakeholders involved.
Sustainable Development Goals
Accessibility and inclusion
Through the projects Open. Il Grande accessibile, Grande Comunità, and Dance Well, the Fondazione del Teatro Grande offers concrete tools and implements specific actions to improve the enjoyment of performances for blind, deaf, and cognitively disabled people, as well as those living with Parkinson's disease.
The Theatre also brings its artistic excellence to those who cannot go to the theatre, such as residents of nursing homes, hospitals, prisons, migrant reception centers, protected communities, dormitories, and soup kitchens for the needy.
No poverty
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande creates and promotes projects to combat educational poverty, involving children, adolescents, local schools, and NEETs in workshops, performances, and tours of the Teatro Grande, with a particular focus on marginalized and socially vulnerable groups.
Energy efficiency
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande has embarked on a program to increase energy efficiency and monitor consumption. The transition from incandescent and fluorescent lighting to LED lighting is underway, both for the theatre spaces and for performances.
The Teatro Grande uses a state-of-the-art temperature control system that optimizes energy resources. Thanks to the installation of air quality sensors, it is possible to monitor CO2 concentrations in the rooms.
Gender equality
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande is actively committed to promoting and ensuring gender equality within its organization through concrete actions such as equal pay, gender balance in staffing, and equal opportunities for access to senior positions.
Sustainable productions
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande favors circular economy models in the creation and co-production of stage productions and, where possible, encourages the reuse and rental of sets, costumes, and props.
Preventing and reducing waste
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande is committed to reducing waste by minimizing the use of packaging and choosing durable materials and reusable containers for transporting sets and costumes. Materials such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal are recycled through separate collection. The use of plastic bottles and tableware has been eliminated in internal facilities.
Low environmental impact
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande prefers to use materials with low environmental impact. Flyers, postcards, brochures, and theater programs are printed on FSC paper or similar.
The cleaning service chosen uses Ecolabel-certified products and procedures with low environmental impact.
Efficient use of water resources
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande promotes awareness among artists and its staff about the importance of conserving the planet's water resources.
The Theatre provides artists involved in its activities with water bottles that can be filled at two microfiltered water dispensers located backstage and in the office area. It also promotes responsible water management among its staff, including through the adoption of specific internal guidelines aimed at raising awareness and guiding everyday behavior.
Eco-friendly travel
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande promotes sustainable mobility through events and communication initiatives that encourage artists, audiences, and staff to travel to the Teatro Grande by bicycle, eco-friendly means of transport, or public transport.
Social responsibility and enhancing partnerships
The Fondazione del Teatro Grande values the environmental, social, and sustainability choices of its founders, supporters, and institutional partners by promoting the choices and best practices adopted by these entities, considering them important elements in building collaborations consistent with its values and the path of sustainability it has undertaken.
