La Fondazione del Teatro Grande di Brescia

The Teatro Grande in Brescia traces its origins back to a 17th-century institution, the Accademia degli Erranti, which was founded around 1640 and devoted all its energy to managing the city theater. Over the years, it established itself as the city's main theater.

During the 20th century, it also gained increasing importance among national theaters until, in the 1970s, the Italian state identified it as one of Italy's traditional theaters, recognizing for the first time the cultural, social, and educational functions of musical activities, programming, and/or symphonic opera production.

From the late 19th century to the present day, the Teatro Grande has staged the most important operas of the Italian tradition. The greatest Italian and internationally renowned artists have graced the stage of Brescia's Massimo, both during operas and in concerts organized for various events.

Since 2010, the Teatro Grande has been managed by the Fondazione del Teatro Grande di Brescia, whose primary objectives are the promotion of tradition, contemporaneity, multidisciplinarity, and young people. The idea is to create an open theatre that becomes a point of reference for the city and the surrounding area, where different disciplines find space for different audiences, so that the theatre is a living space for discussion and exchange.
